A REVIEW OF SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC PREDICTORS OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE AMONG CLIENTS OF NDLEA REHABILITATION CENTRES

Abstract

This study explores the role of socio-demographic factors in substance abuse and argues for a targeted approach to address substance abuse in NDLEA rehabilitation centres. It discusses the importance of considering socio-demographic factors in the development of effective rehabilitation programs and policies. It emphasizes the need for policymakers and stakeholders to consider these factors in developing strategies to combat substance abuse. Based on various literature reviewed, factors such as social and demographic predictors significantly predicted substance abuse among the clients. It is concluded that predictors have implications for the development of targeted interventions and prevention strategies to address substance abuse in Nigeria. It is therefore recommended design rehabilitation programs that cater for the specific needs of individuals based on their socio-demographic characteristics and review policies to incorporate socio-demographic factors in substance abuse prevention and treatment.
