IMPACT OF YEARS OF WORKING EXPERIENCE ON AWARENESS AND UTILIZATION OF DISEASES PREVENTIVE MEASURES AMONG INDUSTRIAL WORKERS IN KANO STATE.

Abstract

This study is on the impact of years of working experience on awareness and utilization of industrial diseases preventive measures among workers in Kano State, Nigeria after health education intervention. To achieve the purpose of this study, two research questions were raised and two hypotheses were tested. One group pretest and posttest quasi experimental design was used for this study. The population of this study comprises all workers in the selected industries, with the total population of 7,130 while the sample of 379 were determined using slovin’s formular. The researchers organized panel discussion and also developed a questionnaire on four points Likert scale and used for data collection. The questionnaire consists of two sections A and B, and was validated by three (3) experts in the Department of Human Kinetics and Health education, BUK, a pilot study was conducted in an industry in Taraba State and a reliability index of 0.95 was obtained using Spearman-Brown Prophecy Formula. Out of 379 copies of questionnaire administered to the participants, 370 were duly completed, returned and used for data analysis. Frequency count and percentage was used to organize and describe the demographic variables of the participants, ANOVA was used to test the formulated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The finding of this study revealed that industrial workers in Kano State have similar awareness of industrial diseases preventive measures based on their years of working experience after health education intervention (F = (2,369) .020, (P > 0.05, the finding also revealed that industrial workers do not differ significantly on utilization of diseases preventive measures based on their years of working experience after health education intervention (F = (2,369) .020, (P > 0.05). However, it was recommended among others that health education campaign should also be intensified among industrial workers regardless of their years of working experience in the industrie
